Notice of intent to make a determination

Montreal Lake Cree Nation & Little Red River Solid Waste Transfer Station & Decommissioning- Public Comments Invited

October 14, 2020 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Montreal Lake Cree Nation Solid Waste Transfer Station & Decommissioning, located in Montreal Lake IR 106B is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

Construction of the Solid Waste Transfer Station at S31-T52-R27-W3M and decommissioning of the existing disposal site. Approximately 500 lin.m. of perimeter chain link fence surrounding the site. New access roadways and 125m x 125m built up gravel pad serving as the transfer station area. Concrete retaining walls for ramp disposal area and separation of non-household waste materials. Used oil storage tank, used battery storage container and 30 cu.yd. waste bins will also remain on site permanently. Construction layout staking, topsoil stripping, geotextile placement, imported granular fill material for construction of pad, construction of concrete retaining walls, installation of perimeter chain link fencing, placement of 30 cu.yd. waste bins, used oil container and used battery storage container. Upon completion of the new transfer station, the existing landfill and white metals, tires, etc. storage areas will be cleaned up and permanently closed and decommissioned. Any construction waste generated from construction of the new transfer station will be transported to an off-site landfill by the Contractor.
