Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation Water Treatment Plant - Public Comments Invited

October 2, 2020 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation Water Treatment Plant, located in Ahtahkakoop IR 104 is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The existing water treatment plant has reached the end of its life span. Project is for the new construction of a 614m2 reservoir with a treated water storage capacity of approximately 1,750,000 million liters. The water treatment plant structure on top of the concrete reservoir will be of a timber frame construction with a metal room and a brick finish. Treatment equipment will be a Delco Biofiltration/R.O system. The water treatment plant will come with a backup power generator, distribution pumps, truck fill pumps, and two standby fire flow pumps.Two new raw water wells will be constructed to supply the raw water required for the project, including a raw water supply main to the building.New distribution mains will be installed to connecting the existing water distribution system to new water treatment plant.The existing water treatment facility will be decommissioned, disconnected and turned into a storage facility.Live span for the new facility is anticipated to be 30 years.
