The Proposed Project

14 Wing Greenwood is an active Royal Canadian Air Force Base located in the Village of Greenwood, located approximately in the middle of the Annapolis Valley, midway between Digby and Windsor and 160 kilometres west of Halifax. There are a total of four (4) existing aged buildings on federal property located within the Explosive Storage Area (X-Area) of 14 Wing Greenwood, Greenwood, Nova Scotia (44°58'45" N and 64°53'33" W) that have been identified by the Department of National Defence for demolition; B100 (834 m2), B107 (55.9 m2), B135 (99.6 m2) and B145 (25.9 m2). The buildings were associated with the training and operational support for military and Search and Rescue activities at 14 Wing Greenwood. The buildings were constructed between 1960 and 1968. The buildings are single-storey, slab on grade, concrete/cinder block/wood framed structures with a total combined floor area of approximately 1,015 m2. The buildings were used as storage and maintenance of ammunition, torpedoes, flares, etc. Prior to demolition a hazardous material survey will be completed for each building and all identified hazardous materials will be removed and disposed of as per current legislation.
