Chemtrade maintenance dredging - Public Comments Invited

September 28, 2020 – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Chemtrade maintenance dredging, located at Berth 1 near 100 Amherst Avenue in North Vancouver, BC is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by October 28, 2020.

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

Chemtrade proposes to conduct maintenance dredging adjacent to its Berth 1 near 100 Amherst Avenue in North Vancouver, BC. The purpose of the project is to dredge and remove accumulated sediment to achieve appropriate vessel clearance at the berth. The scope of works includes dredging a footprint of approximatively 240 square meters to a target dredge depth of -11.0 metres chart datum. The total dredge volume will be 516 cubic metres. Dredging will be completed with a clamshell bucket and will take a few days. The applicant plans to dispose the sediment upland. The area was last dredged in February 2015.
