Notice of Time Limit Suspension with Reasons

Ottawa — September 18, 2020 — On September 17, 2020, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) suspended the 180-day time limit within which it must provide Suncor Energy Inc. (the proponent) with a notice of the commencement of the impact assessment of the Suncor Base Mine Extension Project.

The Agency has taken this action further to a written request from the proponent that the time limit be suspended in order that there may be sufficient time to prepare the draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines in cooperation with Alberta to support the goal of one project, one assessment.

When the draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines is complete, the Agency will post a notice that the prescribed activity is completed and the 180-day time limit will resume.
