Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada must determine whether the proposed Building Retrofit Project located at the St. John's Research and Development Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online].  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The St. John's Research and Development Centre building retrofit project consists of the demolition of buildings 38 (greenhouse and header house) and 39 (vehicle storage) along with the renovation and addition to building # 25 (Main Office/Lab complex). The renovation and addition includes hazardous material abatement, construction of a new building envelope, new mechanical and electrical systems. As part of the renovation project, a new greenhouse and header house will be constructed (attached to bldg. 25). The renovations include various code upgrades in particular making the facility universally accessible. Site work is also required with road and parking upgrades to the site.
