The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to demolish Cape Bonavista Loran A Site, Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Cape Bonavista Loran A site was a long-range radio navigation station located approximately five kilometers north of Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) between Cape Shore Road to the West and the shoreline of Cape Bonavista to the East. The project will involve the demolition and off-site removal of the remaining infrastructure and removal of debris and will include, but is not limited to, selective site demolition, structure demolition, asbestos abatement, polychlorinated biphenyls remediation, and miscellaneous hazardous materials abatement, and site restoration. Hazardous material surveys were completed for each of the two buildings and all identified hazardous materials will be removed and disposed of as per current legislation.
