July 15, 2020 – The department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada has determined that the proposed Bedford Institute of Oceanography District Heating Line Replacement is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • Potential effects on surface and groundwater:
    • Waterways will be protected from sedimentation during construction
  • Potential impact to land:
    • Increased run-off from the project will be managed in berms, silt fencing, and ditches.
  • Potential impacts to Flora and Fauna:
    • In the event that migratory birds or their nests are observed onsite, appropriate mitigation to avoid disturbance will be carried out, including the establishment of setbacks and buffer zones or adjusting construction schedules.

The department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, The department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
