Notice of Time Limit Suspension with Reasons

Ottawa — March 30, 2020 — On March 20, 2020, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) suspended the 180-day time limit within which it must provide Suncor Energy Inc. (the proponent) with a notice of the commencement of the impact assessment of the Suncor Base Mine Extension Project, if the Agency decides that an impact assessment of the project is required.

The Agency has taken this action further to a written request from the proponent that the time limit be suspended in order to extend the comment period to recognize the extenuating circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts to communities, businesses, and stakeholders. Comments on Suncor's initial project description for this Project will continue to be accepted via the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry website until May 1, 2020.

When this activity is completed on May 1, 2020, the Agency will post a notice that the prescribed activity is completed and the 180-day time limit will resume on May 2, 2020.
