The Proposed Project

Batchewana First Nation is constructing a new water treatment plant to service community members in Goulais Mission. This plant will be able to provide clean drinking water to band members located in this area of Batchewana First Nation. To construct the delivery system, a new water supply line will be installed with approximately 4.1km of pipe along Goulais Mission main roadway, 660m of pipe installed in Coulis road and 2km of pipe laid in an unnamed subdivision presently being built. The plant itself will be constructed on the shores of lake superior at the end of goulais mission road, and have an intake installed into lake superior with a raw water intake capacity of 397 cubic meters of water/day. The plant will be serviced by electricity at the lot line and he building will occupy a space of 419 square meters and have an emergency backup generator on site, with an aboveground storage tank for storage of diesel fuel. Lot clearing will take place, with tree and grub removal for the construction site. Once the plant is completed, grass will be planted at the site.
