Demolition of aged Royal Canadian Dragoon facilities at Garrison Petawawa, Ontario

November 12, 2019 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed demolition of aged Royal Canadian Dragoon facilities at Garrison Petawawa, Ontario is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

There are total of 11 existing aged buildings on federal property, Garrison Petawawa, Ontario, that have been identified to be demolished.

Buildings C-039 (2,084m2), C-040 (2,210m2) and C-103 (2,080m2) will be demolished down to the concrete slab. The slab and foundations will remain below grade. Existing concrete pavement will be used for a parking lot.

Buildings B-101 (383m2), B-102 (708m2), B-104 (1,410m2) and G-022 (131m2) will be completely demolished including all basements and foundations. Most of these building contain designated substances which will be removed and disposed of with certified workers.

There are four additional shed type buildings B-025 (12m2), C-041(36m2),C-048 (36m2),C-049 (40m2) are to also be fully demolished.
