Howse Property Iron Mine Project — Additional Participant Funding Allocated

April 3, 2018 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has allocated an additional $17,635 in federal funds to the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach to assist its participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed Howse Property Iron Mine Project, located in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The funding was made available through the Agency's Participant Funding Program. The funding was allocated to assist the participation of the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach in steps of the environmental assessment, specifically reviewing and commenting on information requests related to the proponent's Environmental Impact Statement as well as on the Agency's draft Environmental Assessment Report and potential environmental assessment conditions.

The Proposed Project

Howse Minerals Limited proposes the construction, operation, and decommissioning of an open-pit iron ore mine in Newfoundland and Labrador. The proposed Howse Property Iron Mine Project is expected to extract up to about 46 million tonnes of iron ore at a rate of up to 25,000 tonnes per day, over an approximate mine life of 15 years.
