Arlington Asbestos Waste Disposal Facility Expansion Project — Public Comments Invited

December 1, 2017 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) must decide whether a federal environmental assessment is required for the proposed Arlington Asbestos Waste Disposal Facility Expansion Project, located in Arlington West, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.

To help inform this decision, the Agency is seeking comments from the public and Indigenous groups on the project and its potential effects on the environment, as described in the summary of the project description.

The Proposed Project

Arlington Heights C&D Limited is proposing the expansion of its existing asbestos disposal facility located in Arlington West, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. The Arlington Asbestos Waste Disposal Facility Expansion Project would increase the hazardous waste input capacity of this asbestos disposal facility by 112%. Proposed components of the project include drainage ditches, sediment ponds, a berm to block sound and dust, and waste storage cells (3 current and 4 proposed).
