Kitimat Clean Refinery Project — Availability of Participant Funding

September 9, 2016 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making funding available to assist the public and Indigenous groups in participating in the environmental assessment by a review panel of the proposed Kitimat Clean Refinery Project in British Columbia.

Funding is available for eligible individuals and groups to participate in the environmental assessment, including reviewing and providing comments on the Review Panel Terms of Reference and the Environmental Impact Statement, and preparing for and participating in the public hearing.

Funding will also assist participants in commenting on the potential conditions that would be required, if the project is allowed to proceed. Indigenous groups will also receive funding to participate in consultation activities following the submission of the Panel Report.

Applications received by October 12, 2016 will be considered. Recipients and the amount of funding allocated will be announced at a later date.

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, has referred the environmental assessment of the proposed Kitimat Clean Refinery Project to an independent review panel.

Kitimat Clean Ltd. is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of a new oil refinery located approximately 13 km north of Kitimat, B.C..
