Burnco Aggregate Mine Project – Public Comments Invited and Federal Funding Available

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is conducting a comprehensive study type of environmental assessment for the proposed Burnco Aggregate Mine Project (formerly known as the McNab Valley Aggregate Project) located in British Columbia. The Agency invites the public to comment on this project and the conduct of the comprehensive study.

A background document is available to assist the public in identifying environmental issues that should be considered in the environmental assessment. This document and more information on this project are available on the Agency's website at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca, (registry reference number 10-03-54754).

All comments received will be considered public and will become part of the project file. This is the first of several public comment periods that will occur during the environmental assessment of this project.

$30,000 Available for Public Participation

The Agency is making available $30,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups and individuals to participate in activities related to subsequent public consultations during this environmental assessment.

The Project and Location

Burnco Rock Products Ltd. proposes to develop the Burnco Aggregate Mine Project, a sand and gravel mine located on the northwest shore of Howe Sound, approximately 22 kilometres southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. The proposed Project has an expected mine life of 20-30 years with a production capacity of approximately 1-1.6 million tonnes per year.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development
