Côté Gold Mine Project — Public Comments Invited

February 2, 2016 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is conducting a federal environmental assessment of the proposed Côté Gold Mine Project, located 20 kilometres southwest of the community of Gogama in northeastern Ontario.

The Agency invites the public to comment on the draft Environmental Assessment Report, a document that includes the Agency's conclusions and recommendations regarding the potential environmental effects of the project, the proposed mitigation measures, the significance of any remaining adverse environmental effects, and the follow-up program.

The Agency also invites the public to comment on the potential environmental assessment conditions for the project. These potential conditions would become legally binding on the proponent if the Minister of Environment and Climate Change issues a decision statement indicating that the project may proceed.

All comments received will be considered public.

Written comments must be submitted by March 3, 2016 to:

The Proposed Project

IAMGOLD Corporation is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of an open-pit gold mine, an on-site metal mill and four structures for diverting water. The mine and metal mill would have an ore production capacity and an ore input capacity, respectively, of 60 000 tonnes per day, with a life of approximately 15 years. The four water course realignment structures would have the capacity to divert 14 271 500, 15 695 800, 17 994 500, and 13 286 000 cubic metres of water per year.
