Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Natural Resources Canada have taken the following course of action on August 18, 2015 relating to the comprehensive study of the Dumont Nickel Mine Project. The authorities may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the comprehensive study report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures and the follow-up program, the authorities are of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project for the following environmental components:

  • Air quality;
  • Water quality;
  • Fish and fish habitat;
  • Birds and bird habitat; and
  • Current use of land and resources.

A follow-up program to verify the accuracy of the environmental assessment and/or determine the effectiveness of any measures taken to mitigate the adverse environmental effects is required for this project.
