Labrador-Island Transmission Link Project – Public Comments Invited

June 27, 2013

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is conducting a comprehensive study type environmental assessment for the Labrador-Island Transmission Link Project located in Newfoundland and Labrador. The public is invited to comment on the Comprehensive Study Report for this project.

The Comprehensive Study Report includes the Agency's conclusions and recommendations regarding the implementation of mitigation measures and whether or not the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The Comprehensive Study Report and more information on this project are available on the Agency's website (registry reference number 51746). All comments received will be considered public.

This is the final public comment period on the environmental assessment of the project. After this public comment period, the Minister of the Environment will take into consideration the Comprehensive Study Report along with comments received from the public and Aboriginal groups and issue an environmental assessment decision statement.

This project is being assessed using a science-based approach under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

The Proposed Project

The Labrador-Island Transmission Link Project, as presented by the proponent, Nalcor Energy, involves the construction and operation of an approximately 1,100 kilometre-long transmission line and associated infrastructure within and between Labrador and the Island of Newfoundland.
