Schaft Creek Mine Project – Availability of $50,000 to Participate in the Environmental Assessment

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is making available $50,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist individuals and groups to participate in the federal environmental assessment of the proposed Schaft Creek Mine Project.

Copper Fox Metals Inc. proposes to develop an open pit copper-gold-molybdenum-silver mine, 60 kilometres south of Telegraph Creek in northwest British Columbia, with a proposed ore production capacity of up to 150,000 tonnes per day over a projected 15-year operation period.

To receive funding, successful applicants must participate in the federal environmental assessment of the project. This funding is intended to support public participation in two future public participation opportunities in the comprehensive study process; the public review of the Environmental Impact Statement and of the Comprehensive Study Report.

A funding review committee, independent of the environmental assessment process, will consider all applications and make recommendations on the allocation of funds. Applications received by the Agency by January 14, 2011 will be considered.

Information on the program, including the Participant Funding Program Guide, the application form and the contribution agreement, is available on the Agency’s Web site. Information on the proposed Schaft Creek Mine Project and the environmental assessment is also available on the Agency’s Web site in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry, under reference number 10-03-57852 .
