Highway 905 - All Weather Roadway - Stony Rapids to Lake Athabasca near Fond-du-Lac — Federal Funding Available

December 6, 2016 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making funding available through its Participant Funding Program to assist the participation of the public and Indigenous groups in the federal environmental assessment of the proposed Highway 905 - All Weather Roadway - Stony Rapids to Lake Athabasca near Fond-du-Lac, located in northern Saskatchewan.

Funding is available for eligible individuals and groups to assist their participation in upcoming steps of the environmental assessment, which include reviewing and providing comments on the Environmental Impact Statement or on the summary thereof, the draft Environmental Assessment Report, and the potential environmental assessment conditions.

Applications received by January 23, 2017 will be considered. Recipients and the amount of funding allocated will be announced at a later date.

The Proposed Project

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is proposing to construct an all-weather road from Stony Rapids to the south shore of Lake Athabasca near Fond-du-Lac in northern Saskatchewan. The project includes: 88.5 kilometres of all-weather road; watercourse crossings; temporary structures, including construction roads, work camps and water withdrawal facilities; aggregate and borrow pits; and physical works and undertakings associated with fish and a fish habitat compensation plan.
