The proposed project

Statoil Canada Ltd. (Statoil) is proposing to conduct an exploration drilling project within offshore Exploration Licenses located in the Flemish Pass Basin, approximately 480 kilometres east of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The project would take place over a 10-year period, commencing in 2018 and would allow Statoil to determine the presence, nature and quantities of the potential hydrocarbon resource.

The drilling would be within several exploration licences currently held by Statoil and its partners. Should Statoil become the operator of additional existing exploration licenses in the Flemish Pass or of new exploration licenses as a result of the 2016 Call for Bids processes (NL16-CFB01 and NL16-CFB02) in the Eastern Newfoundland Region or the Jeanne d'Arc Offshore Region, these may be incorporated into the scope of the environmental assessment.
