Federal Review Process

The Impact Assessment Agency (the Agency) has received a final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from Equinor Canada for the Bay du Nord Development project.

On February 12, 2019, the Agency received a draft EIS from Equinor. The Agency, along with the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board and federal expert departments completed a technical review. Information requirements were issued to the proponent and a workshop as well as additional face-to-face meetings were held with the proponent to discuss key issues. The workshop aimed to reduce the multiple information requirement cycles by allowing discussion to clarify key issues. The proponent addressed the information requirements and outstanding issues and has now provided its final EIS.

The Agency has committed to a 300-day timeline for completion of the environmental assessment. The timeline begins once the Agency has accepted the proponent's final EIS.
