Notice of Time Limit Suspension with Reasons

Ottawa — April 28, 2020 — On April 27, 2020, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) suspended the 180-day time limit for the Planning Phase under the Impact Assessment Act for FortisBC Holdings Inc.'s (the proponent) Tilbury Phase 2 LNG Expansion Project by an additional 30 days. The timeline was previously suspended on March 27, 2020.

The Agency has taken this action further to a written request from the proponent that the time limit for the engagement period prior to the start of a public comment period continue to be suspended in order to recognize the ongoing circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts to communities, businesses, and stakeholders. This action is being undertaken cooperatively with British Columbia's Environmental Assessment Office, in support of the Impact Assessment Cooperation Agreement Between Canada and British Columbia (2019).

Following the 30-day suspension, the Agency will post a notice regarding the status of the 180-day time limit for the Planning Phase.
